Why should I consider research?

The introduction of clinical governance and requirements for continuing professional development in dentistry provide the opportunity for dental practitioners to become involved in research.

Participating in research can help dental practitioners to ensure that they are providing the best possible patient care and ensure the efficiency of their practice. It can do this by improving the quality and quantity of information upon which to base decisions about your practice. Another impetus for conducting research is taking some form of higher degree.

There are numerous ways in which research can be carried out, ranging from highly technical laboratory studies to methods such as the randomised controlled trials (RCT) but what they have in common is the benefits they bring.
